20.07.2008 Formula BMW Europe - Races 7 + 8 - Hockenheim

     

Another double Victory for Kaufmann Driver Esteban Gutiérrez in Hockenheim - Marco Wittmann two times on the podium - Kazeem Manzur 9.

     

Free Practise: The rounds 7 and 8 of this year´s Formula BMW Europe Championship had taken place as a support event to the German Formula One Grand Prix at Hockenheim. In the free practise session all Kaufmann Drivers were showing a top performance right from the beginning and dominated the whole session. In the end it was Esteban Gutiérrez who set the fastest lap in front of teammate Marco Wittmann and Kazeem Manzur beeing on a strong P4.

 

Qualifying: In the Qualifying once again Esteban Gutiérrez was the dominating driver. With two very fast laps he took Pole Position for both races. Marco Wittmann was in traffic at the end of the session struggleing a bit to put a faster lap, he still qualified two times on P4. The same happend to Kazeem Manzur. Beeing on P5 for the first race he was stucked behind another driver which costs him his second fastest lap. In the end he was only on P14 for the second race.

 

Race 1: At the start to the race on Saturday Afternoon Esteban Gutiérrez was able to defend his Pole Position and was leading the field. Marco Wittmann overtook Juncadella in the opening lap and was on P3. Kazeem Manzur however lost some places at the start dropping back to P11. At the end of the first lap, due to an accident the Safety Car came out. At the Re-Start Gutiérrez defended his leading position and from that point on he showed an incredible race pace. Lapping half a second quicker than the rest of the field, the young Mexican won the race with an advance of over 6 seconds. Marco Wittmann, who was very fast as well, was constantly putting pressure on Adrien Tambay but didnt´found a way pass and finished third in the end. Kazeem Manzur, after a poor starting phase found his way back into the race and finished on P9, scoring his best result for this season so far.

 

Race 2: On Sunday Morning Esteban Gutiérrez again kept his leading position and was leading the field in a commanding way. Like the day before the young Mexican dominated throughout the whole race with one fastest races lap after the other. In the end he once again won the race with an advance of over 6 seconds. With that win Esteban Gutiérrez has actually 6 consecutive wins in this year´s Formula BMW Europe Season. Marco Wittmann kept his fourth position at the start and was putting pressure on the drivers in front of him. In the second half of the race he overtook Juncadella in the Mercedes corner and took third place. He defended his position untill the end and scored another podium finish. Kazeem Manzur had a good start moving up to ninth position. In antoher fight for positions he had to dodge a driver in front of him and bend his front wing. Unfortunately in the middle of the race he had to retire because of a technical failure on his clutch.
