Double Podium Finish for Marco Wittmann in Budapest - Esteban Gutiérrez on P2 - Kazeem Manzur scoring points

Free Practise: Rounds 9 and 10 of this year´s Formula BMW Europe 2008 season had benn held as support event for the Formula One Grand Prix of Hungary at Budapest. In the free practise the Kaufmann Drivers Wittmann and Gutiérrez had a good pace directly from the beginning. At the end Wittmann set the fastest laptime of the practise and Gutiérrez beeing 3rd fastest. Kazeem Manzur only set the 19th fastest practise time.

Qualifying: In the Qualifying Wittmann and Gutiérrez fought a hard battle for the Pole Position but in the end both drivers had to be satisfied with P2 and P3. Wittmann qualified for both races on 2nd grid position and Gutiérrez on 3rd grid position. A very disappointing Qualifikation had young Kazeem Manzur. Already in trouble with finding any free lap, in the end he was punished by the Stewards due to a breach of the driving conduct – P26 and P19 had been the result.

Race 1: At the start of the first race Wittmann and Gutiérrez had a hard but fair fight. In the third turn Gutiérrez took over 2nd position. Due to a little driver mistake Gutiérrez unfortunately dropped back again one position. In the following laps Gutiérrez was attacking Tambay very hard. In the last turn Tamby opened a big gap on the inside and Gutiérrez dived in. Unfortunately Tambay tried to close the gap again and Gutiérrez wasn´t able to back off early enought. In the end both cars clashed - Tambay spun off, Gutiérrez had to retire because of a flat tire. Beneficiary of that was Marco Wittmann who took over 2nd place. After a short Safety Car period Wittmann was putting pressure on the leader Juncadella but didn´t take the risk to start any overtaking maneuver. In the end Wittmann finished close behind Juncadella on 2nd position. Kazeem Manzur also had a very strong race. Started from P26 the young Briton fouhgt his way up to the points and finished on a great 15th place.

Race 2: Similar to the start of the race the day before, Gutiérrez passed Wittmann on the opening lap. In the further race overtaking action wasn´t possible. At the beginning Wittmann was putting pressure on teammate Gutiérrez and in the end Gutiérrez was putting pressure on the leader Juncadella. Finally both Kaufmann Drivers finished very closely behind Juncadella on P2 and P3. Like the day before Kazeem Manzur was as well able to score points. He overtook some cars in front of him and moved up from P19 to P14.
