Free Practise:
On the new race track at Valencia´s port, first the Team and the
Drivers had to learn about the track and the right car set-up. Both,
Team and Driver got along very good with the new race track and at
the end of free practise Esteban Gutiérrez had set the fastest
laptime in front of Teammate Marco Wittmann. Kazeem Manzur was 11th
fastest. Due to an accident where Esteban Gutiérrez touched the wall
and damaged his Formula BMW quite heavy, the Team of Josef Kaufmann
had to work very hard to get Esteban´s car ready for the Qualifying
session.
Qualifying:
In Qualifying, Gutiérrez as well as Wittmann had a hard fight for
Pole Position. Both drivers where doing the fastest lap times during
the session. In the end Marco Wittmann qualified on P2 and P3.
Esteban Gutiérrez qualified on P3 and took Pole Position for
the second race. Kazeem Manzur also showed a strong qualifying on P9
and P8.
Race 1:
At the start of the first race Wittmann was attacking the leader but
stayed 2nd. Gutiérrez dropped back one position at the start but
gained back 3rd place within the first lap. Kazeem Manzur had to
finish his race already in the first lap. In the second corner
another car crashed into Manzur´s car and the young Briton had to
give up the race. After a short Safety Car period the race was
restarted. Actually Gutiérrez was putting pressure on teammate
Wittmann and after half race distance he finally overtook Wittmann.
After that Gutiérrez was fighting for the lead. With two laps to go
Gutiérrez took the lead. Due to a little driver mistake Gutiérrez
lost the lead again and finished 2nd in the end. Marco Wittmann
followed his teammate on P3.
Race 2:
Gutiérrez defended his leading position at the start and opened up a
gap to the following cars very quickly. With fastest laptimes he
pulled away from the rest of the field. In the end the young Mexican
won for the 7th time in this year. Teammate Marco Wittmann had a
good start and was fighting for 2nd position. In lap 7 the young
German found his way past Kevin Breysse and was following Teammate
Gutiérrez to score another double Victory for the Josef Kaufmann
Racing Team this year. Kazeem Manzur did a very good race as well.
After having dropped back some positions due to avoiding a crash in
the opening lap, Manzur fought his way up to 10th position by the
end of the race. |
