Practise: At the first day of the Formula BMW World Final 2008
in Mexico City four free practises had taken place. In the first
free practise Kaufmann Drivers Gutiérrez and Christensen had been
the fastest on the 4.1 kilometer long racte track of Mexico City.
Spanish Teammate Facu Regalia was on P 13 at the beginning. During
the other sessions the Kaufmann Drivers were on pace all the time
and tried different set-up possibilities.
Qualifying: In the Qualifying all Kaufmann Drivers went out on
new tires. At the beginning Christensen and Gutiérrez were the
fastest again but in the end they ended up on P4 - Christensen and
P5 - Gutiérrez. Facu Regalia qualified on P 11. Guiérrez and
Christensen qualified themselves for the following Super Pole
Competition.
Super
Pole: In the Super Pole Gutiérrez improved one Position to P4,
Michael Christensen dropped back to P6.
Heat 1:
At the start to the first Heat Gutiérrez improved one position and
took over the lead in lap 2. Also Christensen moved up positions lap
by lap. Facu Regalia also improved himself upto P9. Shortly before
the end of the Heat Christensen took the lead by Gutiérrez, but
Gutiérrez overtook Christensen again in the final lap. So the
Kaufmann Drivers finished 1st, 2nd and 9th in the first heat.
Heat 2: In
the second Heat Gutiérrez moved upto position 2, Christensen dropped
back to position 6. Facu Regalia was penalised with a drive through
for cutting the chicane which placed him at the end of the field. In
the end Gutiérrez finished 3rd, Christensen 5th and Regalia 18th.
Heat 3:
At the start of Heat 3 Gutiérrez was able to defend his leading
position. Christensen dropped back one position to P3. Facu Regalia
had a good start and moved upto P6. After a collision between
Regalia and Pelletier, Regalia was forced to stopp the race. After a
Safety Car Period caused by that, Christensen took over the lead of
Gutiérrez and that was how the finished Heat 3. Both Kaufmann
Drivers qualified for the first row for the Starting Grid of the
2008 BMW World Final.
World
Final: At the start to the World Final Christensen took over the
by Gutiérrez following on P2. Facu Regalia started 18th and moved up
position by poition. Christensen and Gutiérrez were able at the
beginning to build up a gap. At the end of the race both, Gutiérrez
and Christensen were overtaken by Alexander Rossi. In the end the
Kaufmann Drivers finished 2nd - Christensen, 3rd - Gutiérrez and
10th - Regalia. Overall a very successful World Final for the Team
of Josef Kaufmann.
