Free Practise:
The first round of the Formula BMW Europe Season 2009 was held
during the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix at Barcelona. In the free
Practise right from the beginning all Kaufmann Drivers showed a
strong perfomance.
Kazeem Manzur finished the free practise on P2. His teammates Robin
Frijns and Facu Regalia took the positions 5. and 6.
Qualifying:
In the Qualifying Session the Kaufmann Drivers
again showed a good performance. Robin Frijns qualified himself on
P4 and P6 for the races. Kazeem Manzur qualified on P7 and P4. Facu
Regalia was struggleing a bit and only managed to qualify on a
slightly disappointing P15 and P12.
Race 1:
At the start to the first race
Robin Frijns had a
very good start and took over 3rd position before the first corner.
Kazeem Manzur came back from the first lap on P9 and Facu Regalia
moved up to P10. After a few laps, the race was neutralized by the
Safety Car due to an accident. At the Re-Start Robin Frijns lost one
position and dropped back to P4. Allthough putting pressure on the
third positioned guy he wasn´t able to catch him and finished his
first ever Formula BMW Race on P4. Kazeem Manzur crossed the Finish
Line on P8. Facu Regalia again dropped back some positions to P13 as
he had slightly damaged his car after a contact.
Race
2:
Robin Frijns once
again had a very good start and moved again up to P3 at the first
corner. Kazeem Manzur also started well, but then innocently
collided with Javier Tarancon on the Start-Finish Line and bent a
bit his steering rod. Facu Regalia also moved up to P10. In the
second lap a spectacular accident of Kazeem Manzur. Defending his
6th position, Manzur with his back wheel touched the front
wheel of Jaafar, rised up into the air and looped but luckily landed
on all four wheels in the gravel. Luckily Manzur wasn´t hurt during
this accident. In the following race, Frijns again dropped back to
P4 but still was able to run fastest lap times. In the end the young
Rookie Driver finished again on P4. Facu Regalia was fighting for P6
but in the end dropped back some positions and finished the race on
P10.
