Official Test:
At Thursday Afternoon an official Test Session of Formula BMW Europe
2009 was held at Circuit Zandvoort. First all Kaufmann Drivers had
to get used to the demanding track of Zandvoort, which they never
had raced before. After some Set-Up work and constant fast laptimes
all Kaufmann Drivers changed to a new set of slick tyres. In the end
it was young Dutch Rookie Driver Robin Frijns who had set the
fastest overall laptime with 7/10 of a second advance to the rest of
the field. Teammate Kazeem Manzur was classified 6. Facu Regalia was
slightly struggleing in using the new tyres properly and was 11.
Free Practise:
In the free practise session the Kaufmann Drivers again showed a
quick pace. Frijns was 2nd fastest, followed by Teammate Manzur on
3rd position. Facu Regalia ended up his session in the gravel trap
but still was 7th fastest overall.
Qualifying:
This time, the Qualifying session proved itself to be very difficult
and tricky because of some red and yellow flags. Young Robin Frijns
was the best to handle those circumstances. In the end the young
Dutch set the fastest overall laptim and took his first ever
Pole Position in Formula Cars. For the second race he qualified
himself on P3. Kazeem Manzur also was very fast. He qualifyied
himself on P4 for the first race. Unfortunately he wasn´t able to
set another fast laptime and only was on P13 for the seconde race.
Facu Regalia showed an good performance as well with qualifying
himself on P6 and P7.
Race 1:
Robin Frijns had a perfect start and hold his lead during the first
lap with opening up a little gap already. In the second lap Frijns
did a little mistake in the chicane before the back straight and
lost his lead. From that point on Frijns recovered quickly and was
attacking the leader in the final stages of the race. Frijns tried
really hard to find a way back into the lead, but finally stayed 2nd
and finished for the first time a race on the podium. Kazeem Manzur
also had a good start, but lost two positions in the second lap and
settled down on P6. Although pushing quite hard, Manzur finished the
race on P6. Facu Regalia was able to move up two positions during
the race. The young Spaniard showed a very good race pace and
finished on an excellent P4.
Race
2:
During the start of
the second race Frijns was able to hold his position. Teammate Facu
Regalia unfortunately jumped the start and was penalised with a
Drive Through Penalty, what put him at the end of the field. Kazeem
Manzur had a strong first part of the race moving up to P7 after
just a few laps. Frijns was attacking hard to move to second place
but unfortunately went wide at the chicane and dropped back to P6. A
Safety Car period in the middle of the race brought the field close
together again. At that time Frijns was on P4, followed by Manzur on
P5. At the Re-Start Frijns was following the leaders while Manzur
was hit from behind and spun in the first corner, dropping back to
P16. Finally Frijns finished the race on P4. Manzur ended up on P16.
Facu Regalia stopped the race in the pits after some damage on his
car. |
