Free Practice:
At the
first free practice of the Formula BMW Europe 2010 Season on the
Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, all Kaufmann Drivers first had to
adapt to the track conditions and work on the right car set up. At
the end Frijns was 8th fastest, van Asseldonk finished 10th
and Suvanto was 15th.
Qualifying:
In the
Qualifying Frijns was battleing for Pole Position. At the end he
qualfied 2nd for both races. Hannes van Asseldonk
qualified himself on P10 for race one and P9 for race two. Petri
Suvanto unfortunately only qualified on P14 and P13.
Race 1:
At the
start fort he first race the track and starting conditions had been
really unfair allocated. After heavy rain during the night, the
ideal line of the track was already drying up, but the right side of
the starting grid was still fully wet. As all drivers started on
slick tyres, the right side of the grid was a real handicap for the
start. All Kaufmann Drivers unfortunately started on the right side
of the grid. The result was more than disappointing. Robin Frijns,
starting from the first row suffered from no tracktion at all and
massive wheelspinn, what dropped him back 6 positions to P8 upto the
first corner. Hannes van Asseldonk and Petri Suvanto also dropped
back the order.
After
Frijns recovered himself from the start he directly moved up to P6
at the end of the first lap. In the second lap he overtook another
driver into turn two. Unfortunately that driver lost controll over
his car and collided into Frijns´ rear of the car. Directly Frijns´
back suspension broke and Frijns spun off the track and ended up
into the tyre barriers. Because of that Frijns had to retire from
the race already in lap 2.
Hannes
van Asseldonk and Petri Suvanto, both ended their first race of the
year in the points. The two Rookie Drivers had some nice overtaking
action and finished on P10 – van Asseldonk and P11 – Suvanto.
Race
2:
On Sunday Morning Robin Frijns had a perfect start and took over the
lead into the first corner. After that Frijns opened up a little gap
to the field but during the race he had to defend himself against
some attackings from the following cars. Finally Frijns controlled
the race with a one second lead untill the chequered flag. By that
Frijns won his first race this year.
Also
Hannes van Asseldonk and Petri Suvanto showed a good race. With
constant fast race laps both improved their race pace compared to
the day before. Finally they ended up on P11 – van Asseldonk and P12
– Suvanto. |
