19.06.2011 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup - Races 5 + 6  - Nürburgring

     

Robin Frijns takes maiden Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup victory for Josef Kaufmann Racing on the Nürburgring - Oscar Tunjo in Top 5 - Mathieu Jaminet without points

     

Free Practice: In the first free practice it was specially Oscar Tunjo and Robin Frijns who adapted quickly to the GP Track of the Nürburgring. It was Oscar Tunjo who was able to set the fastest overall practice time - P 1. Robin Frijns was on P 4. Mathieu Jaminet drove for the first time on the Nürburgring and was P 14.

In the second free practice the Kaufmann Drivers had been on P 8 - Frijns, P 11 - Tunjo and P 13 - Jaminet.

Qualifying 1: Again, as Qualifying was split into two groups it was first Robin Frins in Group A for Qualifying. Frijns did a perfect Qualifying session and drove a perfect lap. With that performance he was the fastest driver in his Group A - P1

Oscar Tunjo and Mathieu drove in Group B. Tunjo was fighting for P 1 in his Group and finally finished Qualifying on P 3. Mathieu Jaminet only could drive on P 13. Overall Frijns was P 2, Tuno P 5 and Jaminet P 25 on the starting grid for Race 1.

Race 1: Robin Frijns had a very good start and took over the lead in the first corner. Oscar Tunjo lost one position in the opening lap dropping back to P 6. Mathieu Jaminet was suffering a heavy flat spot on one of his tyres and only was able to finish the race on P 29. Oscar Tunjo drove a strong race and fought his way back to P 5 where he finally also finished the race. Robin Frijns drove the best race of the season so far. Without any mistake the young Dutch was leading all 14 laps untill the end of the race. Finally Frijns won the first Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Race for the Team of Josef Kaufmann.

Qualifying 2: In the Qualifying for the race on Sunday it was raining really hard. It was first Oscar Tunjo and Mathieu Jaminet on track. Tunjo was able to drive on P 7 in his Group followed by Teammate Jaminet on P8. Robin Frijns had a very unlucky Qualifying Session. Beeing able to fight for P 1 again, he was frist stopped by a red flag situation. After the Re-Start of the Qualifying session, the Race Control made a mistake and advised drivers to join the pits. Frijns was one of them and he had to abort his fastest practice time. Unfortunately he qualified himself only on P 5 in his Group.

Race 2: The Race at Sunday noon was still under wet conditions. Oscar Tunjo and Mathieu Jaminet had a very unlucky race. Both drivers were crashed out of the race. Tunjo had contact in the first corner and broke the rear suspension. Jaminet had to give up the race in the pits. Robin Frijns drove a ver good and clever race in drying conditions. He had a good start and moved upto P 8. After that he overtook some more drivers and was on P 5 in the end.
